God’s truth comes to us from generation to generation, passed down in proverbs and parables – echoed by prophets and songwriters. We receive wisdom from our spiritual ancestors along with some of their messes. But, still, Truth can be hard to hear. We listen for God speaking in our hearts and echo it as we name our own truths. We lift our questions to God, leaning into the anxious unknowns, seeking guidance and wisdom. We listen for God speaking in our lives and often hear a call to acts of compassion and service. Those actions can inspire others and lead them to share their own truth. We often face a world of competing voices, shouting their own claims and truths at each other. Hearing God’s voice in that chaos is a challenge, but doing so provides us with a foundation for living. When we find our truth, we can speak up like Jesus, to resist hate and violence, affirm the humanity of all people, and echo the good news of God’s love. The Holy Spirit connects us across our differences and equips us to pass on the unconditional love of God, that we know in Jesus, so that others might find their own voice, sing their own new song, and claim their place among God’s people.
